Astrid Thors, member of the minority Swedish People's Party, lodged her complaint with police against a 15-member group who posted death threats against her on Facebook.

The minister, a regular target of the extreme-right for her stance on migration which they deem too favourable to immigrants, denounced racist motives.

"If we do not say stop and if we do not stress that public threats of a racist motive are unacceptable", Thors said, "some will turn their words into actions".

A European deputy and then a deputy in the Finnish parliament, Thors, 53, was appointed to the Finnish government by Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen in March 2007.
