The company said in a statement that its net profit rose 37.4 percent to 3.6 billion kroner (483 million euros, 662 million dollars) in 2009.

At the same time, operating profit excluding special items was up 17.7 percent to 9.39 billion kroner.

Carlsberg said that sales fell by one percent to 59.38 billion kroner owing to unfavourable exchange rates.

"The group gained market shares in most markets in Eastern Europe and Asia, with particularly strong gains in the Ukraine and Russia. The group maintained overall market share in northern and western Europe," its statement said.

The company forecast that net profit would rise by 20 percent in 2010 although operating profit would be similar to the outcome in 2009.

What an insulting title - you do know there are Ukrainians in Ukraine right? They aren't Russians!
