Next month Scandinavian airline SAS will increase the number of departures between Stockholm and London as demand from businesspeople and bankers are on the rise.
The news came soon after the airline announced additional cost savings of 2 billion kronor ($285 million) and a 5 billion kronor rights issue as its fourth-quarter operating loss fourfold to 1,519 million kronor.
Lars-Ove Filipson, Vice President of Sales and former head of the airlines UK and Ireland operations, said that the company is “alive and kicking” and under the Core SAS strategy focuses on its most profitable and popular routes.
“London is our most important foreign destination”, he told The Swedish Wire. “We are seeing a clear upswing in demand from bankers and business travelers”.
SAS -- Europe's most punctual major airline during 2009 -- has laid its hand on an additional slot (right to schedule a landing or departure) at Heathrow Airport, allowing the airline to increase from six to seven daily departures. A new flight will leave from Stockholm at 12.55 and return from London at 4.35pm.
