During the Frankfurt car show Volvo drew the curtain of its new Volvo C30 DRIVe.
Using so called start/stop technology it just uses 3.8 litres of diesel per 100 kilometer – and therefore emits less than 100 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
"For the first time in Volvo's history we have a car that emits as little as 99 grams of CO2 per kilometer," said Peter Ewerstrand, head of CO2-related issues at Volvo Cars, in a comment.
"We've left absolutely no stone unturned in our determination to reach this target, and it's wonderful that we succeeded”.
To receive so-called clean vehicle premium in Sweden the emission of the car has to be less than 120 grams of co2 per kilometer.
The new model, which covers 1,380 kilometres on a single 52 litres tank of diesel, will appear on the market towards the end of this year.
