The 16-year-old was originally charged with attempted murder, but the charge was eventually commuted to aggravated assault.
The court in the coastal city of Aarhus, heard that the girl had told police the schoolboy had been bullying her for a long time when she stabbed him in the back in the school yard. Both were 15 at the time.
The victim has since recovered from his injuries.
The court ordered her to be released from detention on condition she undergo out-patient psychiatric treatment of up to five years.
Since the attack the schoolgirl had been held at a specialist psychiatric centre for treatment.
Police say that attacks with weapons are extremely rare in Danish schools.
