Matchmaking at the world's foremost mobile technology fair resulted in a large number of promising meetings and business opportunities.
More than 150 Swedish telecom companies were in Barcelona to promote new innovations and business ideas to potential customers, partners and investors at last month’s Mobile World Congress, where some 60,000 people descended to spend a week drooling over the latest phones, apps and platforms.
"There was a large presence of Swedish companies in Barcelona. We managed to link many promising Swedish telecom firms with foreign investors and technology partners”, said Torbjörn Bengtsson, ICT Business Development Manager at Stockholm Business Region.
Invest ICT (a collaboration between Invest Sweden and Stockholm Business Region among others) conducted 76 meetings between Swedish and international companies, resulting in multi-million kronor opportunities for the companies. The organisation also made a special drive for companies in the mobile healthcare sector.
What are investors looking for?
“They look at several factors to obtain a complete picture. They look at, in detail, the executive team and the human resources of the company, how the company defines their target market and what their competitive edge is. They also look at the company’s financial history, business model and growth potential”, Bengtsson said. “Often investors are looking for technical solutions that work together with their own global solutions that can give them an advantage against their competitors.”
What were the biggest trends this year?
“The most eye-catching trends were 'the cloud', apps, tablets and m-health. But the lack of capacity on the net due to increased data traffic was also a major topic”.
