Johan af Donner, the former director of communications for the Swedish Red Cross, was found guilty of embezzling 5.2 million kronor (539,900 euros, 714,400 dollars) through fake invoices.
He was also found guilty of embezzling 2.3 million kroner from the Swedish Cancer Society when he worked there between 2000 and 2003.
Two of af Donner's accomplices who worked for suppliers were also dealt one-and-a-half and two-and-a-half year sentences respectively, and the three men must repay the stolen funds.
Af Donner, who left the Red Cross last summer, pleaded guilty and told the court his monthly salary of just over 6,000 euros had not been enough to support his family and pay his son's private school fees.
