Google has agreed a 10-year deal with Eolus Vind AB to buy the total output of four new wind farms scheduled for construction in the south of Sweden. The wind mills will indirectly supply power to its datacentre, more than 1,000km away in Hamina, Finland.

“We´re always looking for ways to increase the amount of renewable energy we use” said Francois Sterin, Director of Global Infrastructure at Google. “Long term power purchase agreements enable wind farm developers to add new generation capacity to the grid – which is good for the environment – but they also make great financial sense for companies like Google”.

The new wind power purchasing agreement will see a total of 52 new turbines sprout up in Sweden over the next two years.
