China to invest €1 billion in Sweden?

China is preparing a new giant Swedish investment of 1 billion euro (9 billion kronor). But the alleged investment is enigmatic, Swedish television SVT said.

An unexpected comment about a massive investment was made by China’s Prime Minister Wen Jiabao during his official visit to Sweden last month. The Swedish government was not informed about the statement in advance and was very surprised, according to the news source.

Sweden’s enterprise minister Annie Lööf is currently in Beijing to clarify the situation.

During Wen Jiabao’s visit eleven agreements were signed between the two countries in areas such as environmental protection and energy conservation.

“We have recently intensified our cooperation in a number of areas including innovation, research and development, trade, culture and sustainable development,” Sweden’s Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt said in a recent written interview with Xinhua.
