Madeleine Albright recruits Pär Nuder to her powerful consulting firm.

• Sweden's Social Democrats facing 'chaos'
• Swedish leftwing leader gets golden handshake
• Sahlin steps down as Social Democrat leader

Swedish Social Democratic politician Pär Nuder, who served as Minister of Finance between 2004 and 2006, is joining one of the world’s most prestigious consulting firms; The Albright Stonebridge Group.

It’s an international strategy consulting firm founded in 2001 by former United States Secretary of State in the Clinton administration Madeleine Albright and based in Washington. Pär Nuder will serve as the group’s Swedish manager.

Madeleine Albright said in a statement that Pär Nuder will be an "invaluable additions to our global team".

His job will be to "advises clients on global financial trends and provides strategic advice to clients seeking to enter the European market, with a focus on Scandinavia and the Baltics".

Sweden's Social Democrats, for decades the dominant force in national politics, are facing chaos after leader Mona Sahlin announced her imminent departure, leaving no clear successor to fill her shoes. Pär Nuder has been one of the hottest names to replace Sahlin as party leader. However, Nuder has tuned the offer down.

"He just laughs at the interest. He has no intention of returning to Swedish domestic politics," an unnamed Social Democrat MP told the tabloid Expressen.

Social Democrats were instrumental in putting in place the so-called "Swedish model", which is gaining attention and respect in the US.
