A Swedish member of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision warned that European Union risks violating international bank-capital standards and its implementing law should face a rigorous review by global regulators, Bloomberg reports.

“It’s quite clear that there are some things that are not Basel compliant, according to my view,” Uldis Cerps, executive director for banking at the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority, told the newsbureau. “It’s important that the review team does a thorough job.”

“There are a number of issues where the previous report that has been published identified non-compliance,” Cerps said. “Sweden had been very vocal about the need to address those gaps.”
