In a move to boost business and attract skilled professionals, the mayor of Stockholm, telecom giant Ericsson and the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce have launched an ambitious five-step program to make the Swedish capital more innovative.
Mayor Sten Nordin said the city and business community's joint strategy is important for the continued growth of the entire region.
“Stockholm is growing at a rapid rate, so it is important that the city has a good working relationship with the region's businesses to ensure that we can secure more long-term jobs and good prospects for human resource management to businesses,” he said.
Hans Vestberg, CEO of Ericsson, said there is fierce global competition for talent.
“It is important that Stockholm is perceived as an innovation region, a place that is good to live in for our employees and their families,” Vestberg said.
The innovation strategy identified five key themes:
• Innovative people create innovative environments.
• The development of skills that drive growth.
• Increased opportunities for commercialisation.
• Public procurement aiming at innovations, and making public data available.
• Increased collaboration.
The initiative was presented during the “Stockholm meeting”, where 300 politicians, business-leaders and academics met to discuss the capital's future.
