Waertsilae to lay off 730 staff in Finland
HELSINKI (AFP) - Finnish industrial group Waertsilae said Monday it would temporarily lay off around 730 workers at its unit in Vaasa, in western Finland, as it trims production capacity.
"The weakening of new orders last year and changes in the timing of deliveries impact the production volumes of the Vaasa unit," Waertsilae said in a statement.
The temporariy lay-offs will affect nearly all Waertsilae staff in Vaasa, with workers to start doing shorter working weeks from May 17 and to be temporarily laid-off for two weeks in connection with their annual leave.
Globally, Waertsilae employed more than 18,000 staff in 2009.
