Nearly half of the Swedish enterprises with ten employees or more have an IT security policy. That is the highest proportion in the EU.
“The most common risk that is taken up in the policy is the destruction of data due to attacks or unexpected incidents, as is the case in 82 percent of enterprises with an IT security policy”, Statistics Sweden said Monday as it released its report 'Use of ICT in Swedish enterprises 2010'.
“In addition to dealing with the risk of data destruction due to attacks or unforeseen events, it is common that the IT security policy addresses the risk of disclosure of confidential data due to intrusion, fraud or by accident”.
The prevalence of a formally defined IT security policy varies widely between industries. It is most common in the financial sector in which nine out of ten enterprises have such a policy. It is least common in the construction industry and in hotels and restaurants.
There is also a clear correlation between the size of the enterprises and how common it is that they have a formal policy for IT security; the larger the enterprises are, the more common it is that they have such a policy.
