Swedish central bank ‘missing some parts of the puzzle’ business group warns

The Swedish central bank’s unprecedented monetary stimulus will have little effect on bringing back inflation as companies are struggling to raise prices, he head of Sweden’s biggest business group told Bloomberg.

Carola Lemne, head of the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, which represents 60,000 companies, said that it’s “good” that the bank now has a clear focus on living up to its inflation target and is weakening the krona. But inflation is increasingly difficult to control from Sweden, she added.

“I think maybe the Riksbank is missing some parts of the puzzle,” she told the news agency. “It’s not that strange that we haven’t had inflation.”

The Swedish krona fell sharply against the euro last week, after the country’s central bank unexpectedly cut interest rates to -0,25% and announced an extension to its government bond-buying program to fight against strength in the currency, Wall Street Journal said.

“We are all breathless here,” said Aurelia Augulyte, currencies analyst at Nordea in Copenhagen, told the Journal.
