Saab unable to pay subcontractors

• Carmaker Volvo to hire 1,200 new employees

UPDATED: Swedish Radio News said that the financially-troubled, Dutch-owned Swedish automobile maker Saab is reportedly having trouble paying some of the companies delivering parts. Its factory in Trollhättan, on the Swedish west coast, stopped production on Tuesday because of shortages.

Struggling Saab Automobile is also facing chaos as its managing director Jan-Åke Jonsson is leaving, amid growing doubts over its relaunch since being bought by Dutch Spyker cars.

Bloomber said Wednesday afternoon that the Swedish carmaker resumed production at its main plant after stopping yesterday because component-makers cut off deliveries to the factory.

“Certain suppliers halted supplies to Saab Automobile pending discussions about payments and supply terms,” Spyker said in a statement. “Saab Automobile expects to resolve these issues in the short term.”
