Swedish music service Spotify, legally offering instant access to millions of tracks, is valued at 230 million euro, up from 190 euro a year ago. Trade newspaper Computer Sweden got hold of company figures from the Trade Register of Luxembourg where Spotify's parent company is registered.
Napster co-founder Sean Parker invested 11.6 million euro in Spotify in February, taking a 5 percent stake in the company and a seat on its board of directors, the document revealed.
Rumors have been flying that Sean Parker could be hired to head Spotify’s US operations and speed up negotiations with record labels. However, Spotify vehemently denied that its negotiations in the US have made no progress, suggested in a Billboard report.
“We are in fact in a very good place with our label negotiations, which have moved forward significantly and we're still on course for launch by the end of the year", a Spotify spokesperson told The Telegraph. “Any talk of 'back to square one' is completely unfounded speculation and quite simply not true.”
Spotify also said it's “completely untrue” that the company had approached Sean Parker to lead its US operations, as former EMI executive Kenneth Parks has been been Spotify’s US managing director since June 2010.
The company posted a loss of 600,000 euro last year with total assets of 83.9 million euros. Spotify also raised 50 million in share premiums in 2009.
Paul Brown, Spotify SVP of strategic partnerships, has announced that he’s leaving the company for a new startup outside of the digital music space. Also Spotify's head of design Rasmus Andersson is leaving and will join Facebook.
