"She has died ... Now the case is being investigated as a case of aggravated assault and manslaughter," Calle Persson, a spokesman for police in the southern Skåne region, told AFP.
The woman's 71-year-old husband had Monday afternoon honked at another driver blocking a parking space in a supermarket parking lot in Landskrona near the southern tip of Sweden.
The other driver, reportedly a young man in a small, red car, began beating up the husband and when the wife tried to intervene, punched her in the face.
"She fell to the ground and struck her head," Persson said, adding that the other driver had yet to be apprehended.
The woman was taken to a local hospital, but attempts to save her life failed, and on Wednesday life support was switched off.
