Biovica: “Growing interest being on the hotlist”
The Stockholm-Uppsala region has already established itself as a globally respected life science hub, and now Stockholm Business Region has created a list of the region’s 20 most exciting firms for international investors to keep an eye on.
One of the listed companies is Biovica, a Stockholm-based firm focused on improving the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with cancer. The company has developed a highly sensitive and easy-to-use blood test, named DiviTum.
“Being on the list has led to a growing interest in Biovica, and it’s a good sign,” said the company’s CEO Anders Rylander.
What do your expansion plans look like, and what are your requirements for investors and partners?
“We want to make our tests available in as many markets as possible in order to give patients the possibility to take advantage of the tests,” Rylander said, explaining that the company is looking at the Nordic and European market initially, but also has plans to expand into Asia and North America.
“It takes money to expand into new markets. Therefore, we are currently looking for financial backers to help us expand internationally. We have had discussions with a number of potential investors interested in Biovica.”
As life science firm, are there any advantages to being based in the Stockholm region?
“There are major advantages to being based in Stockholm. The greatest benefit for us has been the research collaborations we have established with the Karolinska Institute, which has benefited both parties,” he said.
Ylva Hultman-Erlandsson, head of Stockholm Business Region Development’s life science unit, said the list should help to boost the appetite of international investors.
“The companies are chosen on a return on investment basis. They are all good investments based on unique innovations and ambitions to grow,” she said.
