Rovio, the Finnish company behind the world’s most popular mobile phone game, Angry Birds, is looking for a Swedish workforce to staff a new games studio that will open in Stockholm later this year.

The company’s executive vice president, Petri Järvilehto, said Stockholm’s reputation as a hotbed for successful startups and innovative game developments influenced their decision to open the new studio.

He added: “2012 is going to be a big year in gaming for us, and we’re constantly on the lookout for great new talent. We’re excited to expand to Stockholm and work in one of Europe’s gaming and innovation hotspots.”

The Finnish company pointed out that Sweden has one the most digitally connected economies in the world and that Stockholm was recently named one of “Europe’s hottest startup capitals” by Wired Magazine.

The company plans to employ up to 30 professionals and a general manager to a new studio in Stockholm.

Angry Birds is the most downloaded paid app of all time, after becoming an international phenomenon within a year of its release.

The Finnish company’s Stockholm move adds to previous office openings in Tampere, Finland and Shanghai, China.
