• Autoliv: Autoliv settles with the U.S. Department of Justice

The Detroit Free Press said that Sweden-based Autoliv, a Swedish maker of airbags, seatbelts and steering wheels has agreed to pay a $14.5 million criminal fine on charges of fixing the prices of seatbelts, airbags and steering wheels to automakers that installed them in U.S. vehicles.

The Swedish company has also agreed to cooperate with the ongoing investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.

“It is simply unacceptable that we have ended up in this situation in the first place. It goes against everything we stand for,” Jan Carlson, President and CEO, said in a statement.

Also supplier Yazaki previously agreed to pay a $470 million fine. The firm’s executive Kazuhiko Kashimoto has now agreed to serve 14 months in a U.S. prison, pay a $20,000 fine and to cooperate with the investigation, the newspaper said.
