Sweden ignores talk of currency wars
Wednesday the country’s Riksbank said it was leave its main interest rate at 1 percent. The krona was was the best-performing major currency against the euro, the dollar and the yen.
“This is an appropriate level of the krona exchange rate,” Central bank Governor Stefan Ingves said in an interview with Bloomberg. “We’re happy with the level we’re seeing now. It’s a level that I think will last.”
However, finance ministers from the Group of 20 is to gather this weekend in Moscow and focus will be on the threat of currency wars in a battle to boost trade competitiveness through weaker exchange rates.
Sweden’s finance minister Anders Borg has previously said that stronger currency could prevent the exchange rate from helping sustain a recovery.
