The boss of car maker Citroën in Sweden has come up with an innovative method to get the staff to be on time for meeting and remember to turn off their mobile phones.
For every minute you’re late: down on the floor and do two push-ups. And if your phone rings during the meeting: five push-ups.
Magnus Bengtsson, managing director of Citroën in Sweden, told the managers’ magazine Chef that push-ups is a very effective leadership tool. It saves time and boosts productivity, he said.
Before the method was put into place people were late, left the room in the middle of the meeting to get coffee and answered phone-calls. Now the staff are on time, better prepared and with phones turned off.
"Efficiency and time savings are huge", Magnus Bengtsson said.
The company manager said that the staff found the “punishment” rather funny. However, the magazine never asked the employees how they felt about reprehension.
