Traditionally, the most popular employers among Sweden's young professionals have been the big consulting firms and the retail giants, H&M and Ikea. But preferences seem to be changing.
A growing number of international and Swedish talent is being attracted by smaller, innovative engineering companies and pioneering start-ups, according to a new ranking by employer branding company, Universum.
Stockholm-based music service Spotify entered the ranking for the first time, and made it into the top 10 for academics with engineering, business and IT degrees.
Also climbing the charts were Stockholm-based online payment solutions firm Klarna, eye-tracking firm Tobii and videogame developers DICE and Starbreeze.
Daniel Wägerth, who is an employer-branding specialist, said that both young professionals are getting more and more interested in embarking on careers at young, fresh, innovative firms.
"There's absolutely a big interest in companies like Spotify," he said.
Stockholm has gained a lot of attention for being one on the world's most innovative regions and a hotbed for pioneering start-ups.
"These innovative companies are popular and get a lot of attention right now. They offer their employees a creative work environment and the opportunity to realise their own ideas," Wägerth said.
"In addition, they often maintain an entrepreneurial mindset even though they are growing rapidly, which attracts today's talent."
Universum's top 100 list (Karriärbarometern) is based on a survey among 8,635 young professionals up to 40 years of age, with one to eight years professional experience and degrees in business, engineering or IT.
For the third year, fashion firm H&M was the most attractive employer among business professionals. Search giant Google was the most appealing employer to both Engineering and IT professionals.
