Sweden's Birgitta Ohlsson lands top EU post
The Swedish government announced Tuesday the nomination of Birgitta Ohlsson to the post of EU minister, left vacant by Sweden's new EU commissioner Cecilia Malmström.

"Brigitta Ohlsson, a member of parliament from the Liberal party, is appointed today as EU minister," the statement said.
Ohlsson, born in 1975, has been a liberal party member of the Swedish parliament since 2002. She is a member of the standing committee on foreign affairs and has a background in political science.
Sweden's previous EU Minister, Cecilia Malmström, officially stepped down on January 22 after being named EU commissioner for home affairs.
