Spotify, the Swedish digital music service legally offering instant access to millions of tracks, has in some countries already became more important for record labels and musicians than Apple’s music store iTunes.
Next month the secrets behind the success -- at least some of them -- will be made public as founder and chief executive officer Daniel Ek will be of the keynote speakers at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, said to be the most important mobile industry happening and a must-attend event.
"Attendees will learn about and experience first-hand the latest developments in core mobile technologies, the role of mobile in key vertical sectors such as healthcare, finance, media and entertainment, and the rapidly-evolving world of mobile applications”, said Michael O'Hara, chief marketing officer at the association GSMA.
Founded in 2008, the company is one of the world's largest streaming websites. The music service currently has some 5 million members across Europe and grows with 30,000 new users every day. Spotify is available in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Britain, France and Spain but is expected to be launched in the US and China.
Spotify has also launched its music application for the Symbian platform, used by the world's biggest mobile phone maker Nokia and other smartphones.
The company has been named one of the country's hottest tech start-ups by Kennet, the private equity firm based in London and Silicon Valley.
The 2010 Mobile World Congress will be held 15-18 February in Barcelona.
