Furious Saab fans to boycott all GM brands

GM extends deadline for Saab sell-off

General Motors plan to wind down its loss-making Swedish brand would hurt all GM brands as furious Saab enthusiasts threaten to boycott everything from GM, including Cadillac, Chevrolet and Buick.

Some 50 people from all over the United States and more than 20 members from the press gathered outside the GM Renaissance center in Detroit Tuesday in an attempt to make the managers of General Motors realize the true value of the 72-year-old Swedish brand and grasp the devastating effects a shutdown would cause.

“It was clear that they got our message, now they just need to do the right thing and complete the deal”, said Ryan Emge, editor of SaabHistory.com, an independent promotional news site.

In Sweden, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and other countries local Saab clubs plan protest rallies Sunday the 17th January. In Germany a local Saab club has got 19,000 people to sign a formally request to stop the shutdown.

Also the new web site I won't buy from GM, created by Steven Wade who operates the Saab news and enthusiast web site Saab United, features postings from angry Saab owners.

"Saabs have been my cars of choice since 1966. If GM shuts down Saab instead of selling it in good faith to an interested buyer, I will never even consider buying a Cadillac, Corvette or Buick or anything else that GM promotes," wrote Don Young of Atherton, Calif., on the Web site. "The press often describes Saab owners as passionate and devoted to the marque. The press ain't seen nothing yet!"

I am sure that a large number of people will refuse to buy any GM car, Chevrolet (Korean or US made), Opel, Cadillac, or Buick if they liquidate SAAB rather than selling it. This because GM is showing really bad ethics and morals when they choose to let more than 10 000 people around the world loose their job and their income for the only reason that GM will not let anyone get their hands on the technology. As if GM products ever were high tech (apart from SAAB)

GM will hardly lose as much money if all of them don't buy as they are losing now with the company. Neither will fleet sales be affected. If GM have the best product and the best price a fleet manager will buy - he is hardly going to say to his boss I didn't buy the best option as GM treated Saab badly.

It goes beyond buying on a personal level. The vast majority will be spreading the word through family, friends and work colleagues. Fleet sales would also be hit. Non SAAB drivers are also on board due to the moral wrong doing of closing and not selling to a willing and capable buyerm
