Saab dealers running out of cars
Dealers of Saab Automobile in the US are running out of cars as the Swedish car marker prepares for the new 9-5 sedan.
“We have about 10 Saabs left, and they won’t last long,” Ivan Goodwin, sales manager at Jim Ellis Saab in Atlanta, told the Bloomberg news wire. “It’s going to be a big problem, but there is nothing we can do about it.”
Saab dealers are running out of cars after the carmaker cut production to save cash and prepare for the new 9-5 sedan next year. To prepare for the production of the new model Saab has slowed assembly to retool its Swedish factory.
Last week Saab’s owner General Motors, that is selling Saab to an investor group led by Swedish sports-car maker Koenigsegg, said one-third of all dealers in the United States will be closed as a part of the sale.
Letters have been send to 81 of the 218 US dealers notifying them about the termination of their dealership. Dealers have been chosen based on their potential to make money.
"We selected a network that gives us the best opportunity to achieve that”, Mike Colleran, chief operating officer of Saab Cars North America, told AP.
In Europe Saab lost 65 percent in sales last month, according to new figures from European Automobile Manufacturers Association, making the Swedish carmaker the most horrible on the market. In total sales of cars increased 11 percent in Europe in October.
